What to expect...
Uyuni offers endless expanses that could not be more varied: deserts, salt fields, lagoons, mountains and volcanoes. Here you'll find them all. So be sure to bring along your camera to capture the picturesque views. If there is a bit of rain, head straight to the salt field and marvel in the stunning mirroring landscape, where clouds are seen both above and below you. Stroll along the geothermal area and take a warm bath in a natural pool.
Today you'll arrive in Salar de Uyuni, home to surreal landscapes in Bolivia! Today is free to use as you please. Feel free to stay and relax at your hotel, or start exploring this wonderful town on your own. We recommend strolling through the pedestrian zone where you'll find many spots to show and eat. Gather some first impressions of the small town on the edge of the largest salt field in the world.
Today will be spent visiting a few nearby destinations. At 10:30 you'll start your journey north to Colchani, 23 km away. Here you will learn about the salt production of Colchani and how the locals extract and process the salt from Salar using rustic tools. Hills of salt, extracted from the salt lake, look like piles of snow and everything is so white that it's nearly blinding. There is also an island of rocks among this white landscape, where you can enjoy a lunch with incredible surroundings. After, you will get to see the Incahuasi Island, with its many cacti, some 1000 years old! Stay and dine either in San Juan or Bellavista where you'll have a beautiful view of the salt lake and mining village, Pueblo de Edad.
