Puno - Custom Package

What to expect... Puno is often referred to as "folklore capital." Here, many festivals, and celebrations with traditional clothing and dancing are held almost monthly. Puno with its approximately 150,000 inhabitants is located on the banks of Lake Titicaca. The lake is not only the highest navigable lake in the world, it is home to the Uru people, who live on the floating islands in the bay of Puno. Rainbow trout is also prevalent in this region, so be sure to try some before you go! Experience Puno, where customs of the Aymara and Quechua meet and maybe you'll even get lucky and meet a Diablada dancer in the streets.

Itinerary

Today you'll arrive in Puno and have the day to use as you please. Feel free to rest and relax at the hotel, or spring into action and start exploring the town. If you're wanting to start with a tour, check out our optional offers. Otherwise, we recommend seeing the cathedral in the main square, the Plaza de Armas, see the sights from the nearby Conde de Lemos balcony, or visit the craft market. Another great idea is to climb up one of the city's lookouts on the outskirts of Puno. Kuntur Huasi (House of the Condor) or Puma Uta (House of the Pumas) both offer a magnificent panorama of the city and bay. Unterkunft im Hotel Balsa Inn* (Classic) / Hotel Tierra Viva* (Comfort)

It's such a unique experience to go by boat on a lake at 3800 metres above sea level. See how the Uru people, who have inhabited the region for 500 years, live today. Their original language - the Uru or Urquillo - has been extinct for a long time now. Today, Aymara and Spanish are spoken on these islands. Learn how they build their houses from tortora reeds and how they manage to live on the lake. Then, you'll continue on to the island of Taquile, home to the indigenous people from the Quechua family. Here you will get infomation about their livestock and agriculture that they live off of. You'll also see their textile production, done primarily by the men on the island. Enjoy your lunch on the island before returning to Puno. Unterkunft im Hotel Balsa Inn* (Classic) / Hotel Tierra Viva* (Comfort)    Verpflegung: Breakfast & Lunch
