What to expect...

Bogotá is the capital of Colombia and the most popular city in the country. As a political, financial, educational and cultural center, this city is one of the country's biggest attractions. But here, too, the air could be scarce: at 2640 m Bogotá lies on a plateau in the eastern part of the Andes, also called "the savannah of Bogotá". What you will find especially in Bogotá is the variety that the different districts offer: High, modern office buildings in the international center, close to the Bohemian Macarena district, the Plaza de Toros, the Bullring, the National Observatory and the Monserrate - and La Candelaria, the place where the city was originally founded. Exclusive residential areas and quarters, In which you can feel back in the colonial times, you can discover here. Immerse yourself in the modern city, enjoy the bubbly, cultural scene and take part in the lively social life of the cachacos - as the Bogotans are also called. Do you dare to taste the hormigas culonas?

Bienvenido a Bogotá! You will be met on Colombian soil and taken to your accommodation. The rest of the day, you can have a look at the streets of Bogotá and get used to the Latin air before you get to know the city tomorrow. After an extensive breakfast, a half-day tour awaits you in the historical center of Bogotá, also known as "La Candelaria". This antiquated Barrio is of great architectural and cultural heritage and consists of old, stately houses or large Spanish colonial buildings with iron windows, thick and stable wooden doors, balconies and courtyards with beautiful gardens. Continue to Plaza de Bolivar, originally used for both civil and military purposes, as a market square, a gallows square or as a bullring arena. The cathedral from 1539, the Capilla del Sagrario and the Capitol and the Palacio de Justicia - the Justice Palace - are located in this square. Special attention is given to Edificio Liévano, the oldest school in the San Bartolomé district. In Mueso Botero, you will encounter works by the Colombian artist Fernando Botero as well as works from his own collection (Picasso, Renoir, Dalí Matisse, Monet, Giacometti). One of the highlights of your visit to Bogota is the Museo de Oro - the Gold Museum. In this world-renowned museum are some 32,000 pieces of gold, 20,000 precious stones, ceramics and textiles - mostly from pre-Columbian times, which impress the visitors. The museum is regarded internationally as one of the most important museums of its kind. The crowning end of the tour is the Santuario de Monserrate, the symbol of Bogotá. Take the cable car up to the top of the mountain where you can enjoy an incredible panorama of 500 m above the city!  In the afternoon, the streets of Bogotá can also be explored on their own: stroll through the city, try some Arepas - a Columbian speciality - and enjoy the atmosphere.
