Not far from Panama City, you can find the Chagres National Park. Today's excursion will take you to this park and the indigenous villages of the area. One of them is the village of the Embera-Wounan tribe. They still live in the middle of the jungle. The National Park was created to preserve the tropical rainforest and the rivers of the area. These rivers are important for the Panama canal as they provide the water needed for it.

Today you will visit the beautiful and the historically important Boquete. In Spanish, the word Boquete means 'gap or opening'. Looking for a cheaper and quicker way to the Pacific, curious gold seekers trekked this gap. Farmers began settling the region near the end of the nineteenth century. This region is one of the best places in the world to grow coffee and the production here is judged to be among the finest in the world. Boquete has an impressive flora and fauna, including rain forests and mountain chains. The region is considered to be quite unspoiled, since it is not as famous as other ones.

Boquete is known as the "Valley of the Flowers" and it is nestled in the western highlands of Panama, near the border to Costa Rica. Because it is not as well-known as Costa Rica, Boquete is a 'road less traveled', and offers a quieter, more authentic natural experience. Today you go on a hiking tour on one of the most beautiful trails of Panama: the Quetzal trail. It got its name from the 600 Quetzal birds that live in the surrounding Baru National Park. You might even get a chance to see one of them!
