Colonia del Sacramento - Custom Package

What to expect...

Because of its strategically important location on the Rio de la Plata, the small town of Colonia del Sacramento is rich with an eventful history. After being founded in 1680 by the Portuguese, it was ruled back and forth by Spain and Portugal throughout the following centuries. The influence of its various rulers are still visible in Uruguay, its oldest city. Though it’s easy to get around by foot, bicycles and golf carts are also available to rent to quickly reach farther destinations, such as along the beach to the former bullfighting arena, the Plaza de Toros.

The historic town of Colonia del Sacremento can be reached by bus from Montevideo or by boat from Buenos Aires. Upon arrival, you may go by taxi or public transportation to reach your hotel, though those inclined to walking can also go by foot. Take the day to explore this UNESCO World Heritage City and historic quarter. Stroll through narrow alleys and streets lined with cafes and restaurants. Finally, round out your day by treating yourself to a glass of traditional wine, Medio y Medio and a sandwich-style specialty, a chivito. The walled-in city of Colonia del Sacramento is a delicate nod to the colonial era and overwhelmed with architecture. Its unique character is one that’s sure to impress.
